Hi! I earned my MFA in Creative Writing in 2015 and recently moved to California from Florida where I was an English professor. I specifically taught written communication and literature classes. I always made class exciting with music, physical movement, group and individual work, debates, being outside and technology! I studied abroad during my graduate program and I was a substitute teacher for k-12 districts in Virginia, a job coach for adult students with disabilities in Pennsylvania and a supervisor for an after-school program as well. I earned my certification as an athletic coach before coaching a coed college and high school team which I loved! I was also a graduate assistant for the Student Engagement department. As you see, I have ample experience in different school environments working with students from kindergarten to college age. I love the outdoors, my family, traveling, animals and am quite crafty. I had a math tutor when I was in college so I know what it feels like to be the student receiving specific tutoring. Now, as the tutor, I try to make the students feel comfortable and provide the best guidance I can with patience! I believe everyone is capable of learning with the right resources, time and effort. I have been tutoring one-on-one and with an academy now for several years. I try to offer a flexible schedule to meet your needs. I look foward to meeting you.
I enjoy helping students grow and making them feel more comfortable with subjects they find difficulty succeeding in - I enjoy helping them understand that they can enjoy that subject if they’re provided a different approach to learn the material.
I've been using Shauna-Maria's help for several months now. I wouldn't want to use anyone else one-on-one. I've been through several tutors and she's by far the best. I'm happy to leave her a great review - I read reviews a lot so I hope this helps others feel confident if they're considering her services!
I would definitely recommend using Shauna-Maria's tutoring services. She was friendly and knowledgeable. I actually enjoy writing now!
Shauna-Maria was really helpful. She was understanding, reliable, and communicated well. I'm glad I found her to help me with my writing needs!
I always greet students and talk briefly about their school experience and their interests/hobbies before starting academic work so that the student feels more comfortable. I show them what I have prepared for them to focus on and make sure they understand they can ask questions at any time.
I earned my MFA in Creative Writing and have worked in numerous school districts and a college.
I was a substitute teacher at a public school district and a job coach/instructional assistant. I enjoy helping others in a creative way.
I have worked with kindergarten to college age students (including advanced placement students and adults who have returned to college to earn their degrees). I have also worked with students in special education classrooms. Every classroom that I have had included a diverse population!
Do I have a goal?
Do I have an understanding of how to communicate my questions and concerns to a new tutor?
Will I commit to tutoring lessons?
Am I willing to work with the tutor to succeed in the class that I am currently enrolled in?
