About

Individualized Art Lessons, Presentations, and Art Demonstrations. My goal is to get my students comfortable with their materials and strengthen their skills, and encourage them to explore new and different creative solutions. Art is a personal experience.

My students learn to understand the materials that they are going to work with. From prepping their drawing paper, canvas, or chosen surface, to completed projects for journals, sketch studies, to ready to hang on the wall. Lessons are tailored to help students experience the joy of creating and feel confident at all skill levels. I ENJOY SEEING the spark when colors are mixed, or brushstrokes make sense.

I like how she found ways to help me understand things better and it has helped me so much. I also like how supportive she is.

I am a kindergarten teacher and we loved Suzanne‘s art lessons. She teaches to your grade level and she is wonderful. Our projects that we have done with her are step-by-step and turn out wonderful. The kids learn from each piece of art work that we have done. Once we did a butterfly lifecycle painting and crayon resist.

    Frequently asked questions

I have been meeting my students for a private zoom meeting (or child and parent) to determine their current level, and what direction they want to take their art.

I will provide a structured plan that is "adaptable" to the students needs.

I teach adult students with minimal or experienced drawing skills, and will help fine tune their desired direction. Materials and subject is your choice.

I also work with teachers to provide an on line zoom plan for their students at the classroom level.

In person instruction can be done at your place, or mine (outdoor garden studio setting). Or at local coffee shops - I've got some welcoming locations that are comfortable for such lessons.

Over 35 years in the professional art world.

PleinAir and Studio Painter. I travel,  I sketch, I draw, I paint, I practice.

I paint ALONG with my students.

I have an hourly rate $35 / for an individual lesson. I will offer group and discounted rates on a Tuition based schedule for on-going weekly or bi-weekly lessons. Typically bulked in 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 week sessions. This is flexible with most school calendars. See me school page @SuzanneArtist (on Instagram) to get the most up-to-date calendar and schedule.
I started teaching when i volunteered in my children's classroom. It was a clear good fit and I began developing my own lessons and curriculum in tandem with teachers and other artists. I adapted my own art and methods to be user friendly and allow students to experience the creative process and learn with their hands...
My youngest student in the classroom was 3. I've got students in their 80's now. From toddlers and parent-guided hands on art playtime. I have students with challenges, but also students who just want to tap into their own curiosity and try something new and different. My job is to make my students comfortable with the creative process. We will explore and try different materials. We might tap into traditional materials and understand the historical significance of a method or material, and then see where it takes us now. There are no limits to trying, as long as it is safe and ethical (and legal). I love when the student audibly "wonders" out loud.
On one of my recent travel excursions, I was seated with my daughter at the Restaurant Fournaise, where Renoir painted his "Luncheon with the Boating Party" and various other paintings. To know I was sitting where he sat, seeing the colors, and listening to the sounds was an experience i will cherish. These are the Art Moments that I bring to my students.
I do my best to share with you and your students real world experiences. I bring in my own, and refer to the masters and current modern working artists so that the students can understand, appreciate, and be a part of the art process too. I encourage my students to make art a part of their daily conversation. It's not just a sketchbook, or a journal, or a photograph. It's a personal, ongoing journey. I won't teach you to mimic my style, but I'll provide tools and ways to discover what works best for you. And if you find a different tool, or method... then let's try it, and share it, and figure out why not.
It is important to understand the costs, both in time and materials. I will share with my students the most suitable and affordable tools. I will demonstrate the benefits of quality verses cheap and questionable. However, good materials are not always the higher priced materials. Knowing how to make something out of nothing has been the artist's way of being successful for centuries. Ask yourself, how much are you wanting to invest? That's a personal answer, but I am here to help keep it real and reasonable.
