Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I have been giving lessons over zoom even before the pandemic hit
First the prospective student will share his goals and visions for his life, and where the lessons will help them achieve their dreams. Lessons are customized to match these interests and are not predetermined by me.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been an interpreter and translator for almost all of my adult life. Teaching used to be something I did on the side, but since 2016 this is my main activity.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
The quote I will send you reflects exactly what you will be paying for one hour lesson in a week. Adjustments will be made if lessons are to be given 5 or even 7 days a week, according to what you need, in your own estimation, right now.
How did you get started teaching?
I come from a family of language teachers. This was a natural development for me.
What types of students have you worked with?
My students are professionals in their majority. Business owners, engineers, and a few students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A young Brazilian man telling me that he was able to carry on a conversation in English with a visiting foreigner in Brazil, after I taught him how to handle different situations that could come up in his interaction with the visitor.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
See if you like them. See if they boost your confidence.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What do you want from this. Forget about what you think you need. A good teacher, such as myself, can help with what you want, but no one will make you achieve what you think you need, because your heart is not in what you "need", but in what you truly want.
