Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
It depends on the student and what the needs of the student are as well as the subject of the lesson. I take into consideration all aspects of student needs and goals to assess how to proceed.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a 200-hour Yoga Teaching certificate, 500 hour yoga therapy certification, a reiki master certification, Mindful Resilience trauma informed yoga certification and 4 decades of practice in addition to many published articles I have written on the subject of Yoga.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
For individual private Yoga sessions, I charge $40.00 dollars, unless I have to travel over 25 miles, which increases the fee to $10.00. Group rates are $15.00 per person.
For English writing/grammar lessons, I charge $20.00 per hour for one on one.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching English right out of college because I was an essay reader/grader as my job going through school. The high school then hired me.
I started teaching Yoga to friends going back forty years in high school and then by recommendation from other students and teachers. I teach seniors at a local gym now and private session in small groups and one on one at my home or at students’ homes.
What types of students have you worked with?
All types, young, older, senior.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I’m fond of astronomy and celestial displays, like the solar eclipse last summer and a recent super moon. I enjoyed my sangha (community) during my teacher training and Yoga Day at Loyola Marymount University.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find someone who is a good listenener/observer as well as a good instructor.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
They should think through their specific goals and expectations for what the teacher can and will provide.
