Cello Lessons With Ivan
About
I focus on building a strong foundation or technique and musicality for young cellists. It is important for a teacher to guid the student down the path they choose rather than force them to play a certain way. I believe that I will be able to do just that for my students. I am a sophomore at The University of California Santa Barbara studying under cellist Jennifer Kloetzel. I believe what I have learned from her in combination with my 6 years of experience playing and 3 years assisting in education, will be excellent tools that a student can rely on to learn to play cello.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to have a conversation with my new students and ask them what they would like to accomplish while working with me. I also like to get to know the students in order to gauge how I will adapt my teaching style to their needs as a student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have worked and volunteered as a camp counselor for eight years and I have worked in a school setting for two years. I have been playing cello for six and a half years and I have been involved in music for nine and a half years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My standard pricing system is 30/hr as that is the typical rate for private teachers. Many teacher charge more based in their experience.
How did you get started teaching?
I got started teaching in high school when a friend decided that they too wanted to learn how to play the cello, so I offered to teach them and I fell in love with it.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure that the teacher is someone you can get along with and enjoy working with. Even with the best teach in the world, if the student does not like them or their teaching method, then they will not learn anything, rather they will begin to resent their lessons.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What do I struggle with? What did I find difficult about this particular passage? What can I do on my own to work this out?
