What really makes our job fullfilling is seeing the stoke on students faces after catching and riding a wave for the first time. We love to see our students succeed and tailor each lesson to our students ability and progression level.

We work with all ages and abilities. What I enjoy is sharing my knowledge of my favorite surf spots as well as the history of surfing in Los Angeles.

I had an AMAZING experience with Dawn Patrol Venice! I did a group lesson with my friend. We’d both never surfed before and were pretty nervous at first. Jake and Luke walked us through everything on shore before we got in the water which was really reassuring. They were very cautious with us when pushing us into waves and making us feel safe, while also giving very helpful tips while we were in the process of trying to stand up. I even stood up on the white water during my first lesson! I had an absolute blast and would recommend Dawn Patrol to anyone wishing to learn to surf, or someone wanting to get good, helpful refresher tips. Jake and Luke clearly know their stuff so they’ll be seeing us again in the waves for sure! 🤙

What types of students have you worked with?

All ages from 6 years old to 65 years old. Many of our students are between 18-35 who have surfed before but are looking to brush up on their skills.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Many people can surf, but not everyone is an excellent teacher. Knowledge of surf spots and understanding ocean safety is key to helping others build a solid foundation in surfing. As a coach, our goal is to get you comfortable with riding waves on your own, understanding surf etiquette, and raising your level of comfort in the ocean.
