About

I graduated as Artist of the Year from Albany High School many years ago, and have taken numerous drawing and painting classes. Although I graduated in business and computer science in college, my passion in arts and crafts never seized to exist. I was editor of a national crafts magazine for years, and love sewing and quilting when I'm not drawing or painting. I love working with children of any age! Creativity and imagination are important, but they have to find you working on skills! For Teens I have a special class to integrate personal journals and art to focus on their passions and express their dreams as a rite of passage.

Frequently asked questions

Once a parent considers hiring me for their child(ren) or for themselves, I'll answer questions on the phone or by email.  I will find out what their needs are, and come up with a mutually agreed upon plan, offering an introductory 90 minute session for the same 60-minute rate, with all supplies included.

I've taken art classes since I was a child.  I graduated from Albany High School as Artist of the Year, with a scholarship.  Although I did not pursue art for a degree, I have taken classes and practiced all my life, and teaching both adults and children.  I teach mandala painting in addition to classic art.

Standard pricing is $55 per lesson with all supplies included, for a 90-minute session.  The lesson duration is 60 minutes, with discussion and clean up it is 90 minutes.

I started teaching my own daughter when she was very young.  Then her friends became interested, and so on.  I do love teaching both children and adults.  With both, I ask for practicing between sessions.

I've worked with people of all ages and backgrounds.

I travel to New York at least 3-4 times per year and I enjoyed the Hilma of Klint show as well as the Frida Kahlo show this year.  Matisse is my favorite artist although I have many favorites.

My advice to any student is to discuss in advance what kind of art they are drawn to, and what kind of art would they hang on their own walls.  Then find out if the potential teacher has the ability and enthusiasm to get you there.  Also, if I was hiring a teacher, I would commit to only one or two lessons to make sure they are a good fit and their teaching style matches my learning style.
