About

I'm a Southeast Alabama-based brand developer and Navy veteran, but my journey into the world of photography and design began somewhat unexpectedly back in '06. I needed just a few more credits to graduate and opted for a Film Photography class. That choice kindled a passion that has since defined my entire career.

My early days were spent navigating the nuances of analog photography, and soon after, I dove headfirst into the digital realm during my stint in Norfolk, VA. It wasn’t long before my hobby morphed into a full-fledged profession, kickstarted by a serendipitous Craigslist find that landed me my first professional gig.

Education has always been a cornerstone of my development. I first stepped into the academic world of photography with a film photography course at Enterprise Ozark Community College in 2006, where I also completed my Associate’s in General Studies. This early experience laid the groundwork for my passion and future endeavors in the creative arts.

Continuing my educational journey, I later obtained several certifications from San Diego La Mesa College in fields ranging from Motion Graphics to Modern Web Design, enriching my technical skills and industry knowledge.

Building on this foundation, I pursued an undergraduate degree at Troy University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with minors in Fine Arts, Marketing, and Military Operations. My education culminated with a Master’s in Strategic Communications from Troy University, where I further refined my abilities to communicate strategically and effectively in various mediums.

Over the years, I've navigated various facets of photography and graphic design, constantly staying abreast of the latest trends. I love every part of my job, from strategizing with clients to perfecting the final product.

I’m dedicated to ensuring that each project not only meets but exceeds expectations.

During our sessions, I will guide you on communicating via color therapy and motion. The main objective is to not overthink things but to focus on your emotions/feelings and to disperse that energy on a canvas. If you've found yourself facing a creative block or short on expressing yourself, let's paint about it!

As an Abstract Expressionist, I create artwork within the acrylic paint medium. My abstract genre is described as controlled chaos, grunge, and fluid art. I use a combination of brushes, spatulas, palette knives, grout tools, paint scrapers, and just about anything to stroke my canvas. My inspiration is backed by music, ranging from a variety of genres. I find it liberating to perform as an air guitarist before I paint!

    Frequently asked questions

When I work with a new student in painting or photography, my approach is very hands-on, with an emphasis on creativity and personal expression. I like to start by getting a sense of their interests and artistic style, which helps me tailor the learning process to what excites them most. Rather than overwhelming them with technical details, I focus on introducing just enough basic techniques to get them comfortable with the medium. From there, I encourage them to experiment freely, exploring their own creative instincts. As they work, I provide feedback that helps them refine their approach while still maintaining their unique style. My goal is to assess their natural tendencies and guide them in honing their personal artistic voice, ensuring they feel confident in their creativity.

I don't have a standard pricing system for my lessons, as I'm flexible and like to tailor it to each student's needs. The cost can vary depending on the number of sessions a student is interested in, as well as the level of guidance or support they may require. I prefer to work with each individual to find a plan that fits their goals and budget. For reference: If a student requires a weekly session, we can plan to meet each Saturday in the month. We will work within a 2-hour window, so that would be a flat rate of $50 per session, totaling $200 for the month.
I got started teaching through a combination of my background in mentoring and a passion for fostering creativity. My experience mentoring junior Sailors in the Navy honed my ability to guide and support individuals in their development. As a keynote speaker for high school students, I gained valuable experience in communicating effectively and inspiring others. Role-playing as an aunt also provided me with hands-on experience in nurturing and encouraging young minds.
Throughout my teaching journey, I've worked with a diverse range of students, from beginners eager to explore painting and photography to more advanced individuals looking to refine their skills. I emphasize mentoring alongside teaching, focusing on helping each student discover and develop their unique style while providing support and guidance tailored to their individual needs.
If you're looking to hire a teacher in my area of expertise, my best advice is to interview potential teachers to ensure they're a good fit for you. Consider scheduling a consultation or a trial session to get a sense of their teaching style and approach. This will help you gauge whether their methods align with your learning preferences and goals. Remember, it's a two-way street—your input and comfort level are important in finding a teacher who can effectively support and inspire you.
Before talking to teachers about your needs, I'd encourage you to consider the following questions: 1. What are my specific goals or objectives? Identify what you want to achieve with your lessons, whether it's mastering a particular technique, developing a personal style, or completing a specific project. 2. What is my current skill level? Reflect on your experience and skills to help the teacher understand where you’re starting from and how they can tailor their instruction to your level. 3. What type of teaching style suits me best? Consider whether you prefer a structured approach, hands-on experimentation, or a balance of both, and think about how you learn best. 4. What is my budget and availability? Determine how much you’re willing to spend and when you’re available for lessons, so you can discuss scheduling and financial arrangements with potential teachers. 5. What kind of feedback and support do I need? Think about the level of guidance and mentorship you’re looking for and whether you need additional support outside of regular sessions. I hope this helps, good luck and have fun!
