Calm & Colorful
About
My mission for creating Calm & Colorful is to help children & young adults to understand their emotions and teach them tools to handle different emotions children have, that will help them for the rest of their lives.
Starting 2005, I was a part time caretaker and helped raise children of many families. This started my career working with children and over the years, I’ve taught children of all ages.
2007-2011 I was an elementary after school art teacher for Young Rembrandts where I had classes of 15-20 children where I would teach art, manage classroom, give art terms weekly, motivate and develop fine motor skills and self-esteem.
From 2011-2015 I worked at an after-school program and incorporated breathing exercises to help calm down the children when something was wrong. This is when I became aware of the importance for children to learn mindfulness. Adding life skills at the same time, the children are learning to be in the present moment while enhancing their lives with important skills they will learn from responsibilities, peer pressure, self-confidence, resilience and much more. These combined created Calm & Colorful in 2017.
In summer 2015 I traveled to Thailand to volunteer to teach English for a month. It was the most incredible experience! When summer 2016 came along, I traveled to India to volunteer and teach English for a few weeks. Each traveling and teaching experience is its own once in a lifetime experience. I grew so much as a teacher from those trips and am very grateful. In India, I even had the opportunity to work closely with Buddhist monks of all ages!
In July 2018, I published Breathe In Color, an interactive coloring book that teaches breathing exercises, on Amazon and Barnesandnoble.com.
In summer 2019 I completed 200-hour yoga training and am now a Registered Yoga Teacher! (yay!) After 10 years of secretly wanting this certificate.
I believe that it is important to have fun while learning. I am extremely passionate about what I do and dedicated to helping as many children as I can!
I have worked with hundreds of children and incorporated mindful techniques that provided comfort to children going through different difficult situations. The severity of the situations ranged from a child having a bad day to the loss of a loved one. Seeing the benefits of these techniques is why I decided to start a business to teach children and teens how to handle their emotions themselves.
At Calm & Colorful, I offer virtual mindfulness mentoring sessions for children, teens, and families. I’m currently creating an online membership to help families learn more mindfulness, self-worth and empowerment.
I love seeing the growth and helping be a positive support for children and families!
