Jim is an amazingly gracious and patient teacher, despite his incredible ability to create his own beautiful works of art! His knowledge of human anatomy (every single facet that make of our heads, faces, and necks, and how each emotion changes other facial features) really makes learning from him so much more than how to work with clay. He is an artist who lovingly shares his knowledge and abilities with others!

Jim is a remarkable teacher...he instructs, checks in and gives us freedom to be creative, sometimes challenging him to instruct us more on hats and arms and hair and feathers! I have studied with him for 5 years. He NEVER disappoints. Always generous and supportive....New students will be pleased and excited to finish a great piece. Heads up!

I discovered I was a star sculptor thanks to Jim Lee! Not only is he the best instructor in the West, but such a pleasant person. His classes are fun and inspirational and you get to be aMichael Angelo with your masterpieces. Such a fun time and I think I really created some worthy sculptures.

As a beginner, I appreciated Jims patience, his encouragement and his sense of humor. As I gained experience in the studio, Jim remained an inspiration and a fantastic coach. No matter your level of experience, hell make you better.

I love taking classes from Jim because of his fun personality while also being extremely knowledgeable and helpful while walking you through the process. My first class I was amazed at what the other students and I were capable of under his direction. I have enjoyed each class that I have taken from him. I appreciate that he has kept his classes small so that he can give each student the individual attention that they need. He is always a pleasure to be around and makes his classes carefree and fun for first timers or experienced sculptors!

    Frequently asked questions

I teach a step-by-step of sculpture. We begin day one creating the bone structure, add symmetrical lines, add facial features (eyes, nose, mouth, add neck) and shoulders for gesture. Day two we add ears, hair, clothing and details. Three weeks later, we hollow out the sculpture and finishing details.

I am a self taught sculptor.  I have studied under renowned sculptors Philippe Faraut and Andrew Cawrse.

My workshops are $320 (including $20 firing fee) for 20-hours/3 sessions on instruction held only at my Auburn studio.

My friend, Philippe Faraut told me to should teach and I did.

    Beginners to professional artists.

I am fond of all of my students and their work.

Show up with comfortable shoes and an open-mind.  I supply everything else.

After we create the bone structure, you need to decide what genderethnicityfacial expression (emotion) you will like to portray and clothing or not. There are seven basic emotions; anger, disgust, fear, joy, rage, sadness and surprise.
