I also teach everything from Jazz to metal and I provide free software to all of my students along with custom material for them to work on over the week. Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
On the first lesson, I like to have a conversation with the student to get to know them as person rather than just a student. After our introductions, I like to ask the students about their musical experiences to assess their skill level and determine where a good starting point might be.
I like to use a teaching program called Guitar Pro to help the student by providing them material that they can view and listen to while they practice during the week.
This program is available on both Windows and Mac.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I received my B.A. in Jazz Guitar at California State University East Bay and have been mentored by the great Nick Tocco and world famous jazz guitarist Jocelyn Gould!
Through both of their help I have learned so much! From scales, arpeggios, function of harmony, music theory, and most importantly how to use these tools in a practical sense.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
How did you get started teaching?
I got my start teaching at Las Positas College in Livermore, CA through a tutoring program that the university set up for students to learn how to tutor other students within their field of study.
After teaching at Las Positas College, I became a full time guitar instructor at the local music store in Livermore called Mozart, Einstein, and Me (formally ABC Music).
Currently I am offering lessons online lessons, and in-person (only students that are vaccinated)
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with children as young as 7 years old to adults. Each student has their own unique set of goals that we focus on and we work together to design the steps needed to achieve their goals.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
As an instructor, I highly suggest that people find a teacher that is truly passionate about the craft of pedagogy and will go the extra mile to make sure that every student enjoys what they are learning.
