Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We start by assessing where your skill set is currently and where you want it to go. I want to know your goals and willingness to work hard to reach them. I then make a plan that builds on fundamental skills.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Basketball Instructor, University of Oregon
Junior College Assistant Coach
Men's Club Team Head Coach, Oregon
Graduate Assistant, Long Beach State
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge by the session and offer a discount if multiple sessions are paid for in advance. Please contact me to discuss pricing.
How did you get started teaching?
My love for playing and coaching made me realize that players need individual attention to improve thier skills.
What types of students have you worked with?
Ages 7 years old to professionals and every one in between.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Working with a client now who never played before a few months ago. I love seeing his progress and love for basketball grow as he improves.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
A trainer needs to be more than someone who explains how to do a drill. You need a trainer who thinks like a coach and knows what coaches are looking for in players. You need a trainer who understands how to teach you to THINK about the game and visualize your success. Too many trainers do "drills" because they look fun. Do drills that help you play better in games. This is what I bring.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Do you love basketball? Will you practice skills you learn with me in your own time? Do you want to get better or does your parent/family member want you to play basketball? You have to want it on your own.
