What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
In the world of aviation, it seems that most everything is driven by cost. Fuel, oil, maintenance, tie-downs, etc. cause aviation to be expensive. It should not be a barrier but make a plan for your flying goals. Talk to a lot of people and study before you get to lessons with an instructor.
A demonstration flight for you and another will be about $250 for an hour flight.
If you're interested in acquiring the private pilot license, you should estimate $8500-15,000. It's not cheap. It's worth noting that it is not like making a purchase, it is more of an investment of your money and time.
You should estimate about $200per hour for the plane and instructor. It can cost less but use this as an estimate and you won't overshoot your budget.
If you have the money then the hard part will be the time commitment. It requires focus and commitment to safely complete the license.
If you have the time but not the money then start reading and learning now. Take a demonstration flight when you have saved some money. Find out if it's really something you'd like to do. Also, consider taking an aviation class at Cypress College or another local community college.
