Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I begin with fundamentals and elements of design. I build upon lessons and I start off assuming little to no knowledge in art.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have 30+ years of experience working with many publishers, film studios and I had a art subcontracting business. I now teach at a community college.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I'm flexible. Not in it for the money, more interested in helping others achieve a career in art. $20 - $25 is a decent starting point.
How did you get started teaching?
Was asked by the college to evaluate portfolios, then was asked to teach layout design and fundamentals, until I became a full time teacher.
What types of students have you worked with?
beginners, intermediate, some with learning handicaps. Ages go from 17 - 65.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Every time my students show me what they have learned. :)
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Know what you want to do. There are many niches and job types in art, so knowing what one specifically wants is ideal.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
same as above answer.
