Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We try to speak directly with each person looking to get started. Asking them what their goals are and patiently explaining how the whole process works. Then get started with a Discovery flight to try us out and see the methods we use in teaching, how our instructors explain things during the lesson, and tour the school.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
We typically have 8 or more instructors, both men and women, cumulatively with thousands of hours of experience.
All instructors are standardized and follow a syllabus we have written and developed ourselves to supplement the training manuals that students use.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Students simply pay as they go, never required to put money on account.
How did you get started teaching?
We have been in business for over 10 years and grown our business organically without any advertising. Relying on word of mouth and student reviews, we have become one of the most well known schools in the South Bay area.
What types of students have you worked with?
We work with students ranging in age from 12 to over 80 years old. We try to cater to each student's goals and availability, open 7 days a week.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
We have bi monthly mixers for students to come together and enjoy time meeting each other, building relationships to work together, and learn what others are doing. Great way to become a member of our growing flying community.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Always do some research before starting. Make sure the school has a syllabus or course they follow. Specifically, one that they have developed themselves, is practical, and keeps you aware of where you are in the training.
Take a tour of their facility and see how well maintained their airplanes are, and if they have their own maintenance program.
Avoid flying academies that are more like a pilot mill - with no emphasis on catering to each individual and their needs. This is a relationship you are looking to build and should be one that makes you feel they incorporate safety, skill, and fun.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Be realistic in looking at costs. Avoid schools that claim they have the lowest price or can get you done in minimum time. Ask to speak to the owner and get them to explain how they are different than other schools and instructors, and see if you can schedule a meeting with them directly. Don't settle for places that don't provide a personal connection and just interested in getting the most students to make money.
