Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, a phone conversation to ensure my skills and experience match the students wants and needs.
Secondly, meet at an agreed upon place to go over basic safety, firearm handling, marksmanship and range behavior. This is done with non-firing training tools. If appropriate, and at a shooting range, we will proceed to live fire on the range.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Current California Certified Instructor and Gun Dealer at a well known outdoors store. Former "NRA Instructor", range officer and manager at an indoor shooting range.
Martial Arts and firearm instructor for 20 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Student pays all range and ammuntiion fees.
Instructor fee is $150 for up to 2 hours and then $50/ hour for each additional hour on the same day. Each additional student is $25.00 per hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I began teaching while working at an indoor shooting range. Many people needed basic help and didnt know where to go. When I became a martial arts instructor, I decided that all martial arts students should have some familiarity with firearms.
What types of students have you worked with?
Students of all levels and experience.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
The instructor should be able to perform what they teach on demand. A good instructor will not let you shoot until seeing how you handle a non firing gun replica.
