About this pro

I believe my expertise in chamber and solo music will allow me to train students for real world situations and provide an example for success in the music industry. Upon graduation, I successfully won an audition with Tim Zimmerman and the King’s Brass. Our group has already performed 80 concerts this summer in over 17 states across the United States. Additionally, we will have a Christmas tour in December and several other weeks of touring throughout the year. This group has an established record of 39 years of successful touring nationally and internationally and several albums on the market. We record twice a year and I was featured on our recording this August. We will complete over 130 concerts across the U.S this year. This experience and on-going professional proficiency will provide students a basis of comparison and effective model to ignite creativity, hard-work, and dedication to the music profession, while teaching life-skills.

I am thankful to be in a great group and one that I can perform all the time. Not every player has the opportunity to perform often and with a group that has years of established success. I would say it’s exhilarating playing a a new town each day and inspiring others, especially young players. In my experience, I have had several players start the trumpet because of my performances and I have had others inspired to improve and seek out teachers (either myself, or a local person I can connect them with).

I've known Matthew for a number of years now (close to 15 years), both as a fellow trumpet player and personal friend. As a freelance trumpeter in Los Angeles, I can say that he ranks up among a number of professionals in the area in terms of his overall understanding of the trumpet (mechanics and techniques), as well as concepts in achieving success in the upper register. Any student looking to improve their playing would greatly benefit in studying with Matthew.

My two years of lessons with Matthew Dueppen were the two most productive years of my playing. I made such a massive increase in playing ability from where I started to where I was when we ended. He was always able to help me in anyway with a problem I was having in my playing and he was always able to teach me in a way that was very understandable. He pushed me as a player to be better and I wouldn’t be where I am now without that. The music that he had me playwould focus on areas of weakness in my playing and I would notice great improvement in those areas over time of practicing. Even on the days where I was fighting myself and frustrated he was able to make me relax and play calmly without beating myself up, I have had nothing but good experiences and memories of my time taking lessons under Matt.

I have known Mattew Dueppen for almost a year now and I can say his teaching methods are superior. He will find the places where the little details need to be worked out make a big difference. I have learned a lot from Matthew and honestly his lessons have changed my view of the trumpet and that there is more to it then just playing notes.
