Ms. Wang is great with kids given her background working as a music teacher for many years at public schools. My 6 year old is extremely shy around strangers, but Ms. Wang has her style to grab his attention with interesting stories and build a positive learning environment for him. He is now opening up, enjoying and appreciating music more.

Ms. Wang is great with my 5yo. She makes the lessons fun and easy for my daughter to follow. We look forward to the classes each week.

She is direct to the point with her teaching method. She knows what the student needs and she writes and specified what the students need to practice and do at home.

Ms. Wang has been my sons cello teacher for over a year and a half. She is a wonderful teacher - organized, disciplined and at the same time patient with kids. She has kept my son engaged and excited about his lessons and practice.

My middle school aged daughter was in the school orchestra for 2 years and has been taking lessons from Ms. Wang for 6 months. In that time, her keeping tempo, intonation and technique has improved a lot. Ms. Wang has a very cheerful demeanor and is able to break things down and communicates well so learning new material is manageable whether it is theory, sight reading, technique or performance. She also lets us know of opportunities to attend concerts and participate in group performance. I would highly recommend her.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I try to identify where the student is in their learning process. In general I try to make sure that they are able to create a good tone, play with good intonation, and have some basic repertoire memorized before we move on to harder repertoire or books that develop their sight reading skills. I also try to solve immediate needs that a student may have from participating in orchestra or other ensembles.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My undergraduate degree is in both cello performance and music education which has prepared me to teach not only cello, but the basics of other instruments in the violin family.
I completed all levels of Orff Schulwerk which has inspired me to incorporate more play in lessons when called for.
I have completed Suzuki Cello training for Books 1-4 and plan on completing training for all books over the next few years.
I am also a full time high school orchestra and piano teacher. Prior to this job I worked as a elementary strings teacher for 7 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
45 minutes for $75
How did you get started teaching?
A parent saw me play and work with their child when I was in university and recruited me to tutor their child.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all types of students because of my job as a public school music teacher. I am a fairly flexible person and generally get along with students of different needs.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
About a year ago my orchestra students had played so particularly well that it sent shivers up my spine. I was so proud of them--but unfortunately it wasn't recorded and they didn't have an audience other than the judges.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Arrange for a trial lesson to figure out if a certain teacher is a good fit for your personality, learning habits, and lifestyle. If you feel miserable, don't be afraid of switching teachers. If you're okay with the teacher's personality, please do communicate your needs and situation.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students need to have a picture of what they want from these lessons. They also need to be honest with themselves and have a clear understanding of their practice habits and have realistic expectations after considering their own personal schedules.
