Hello. My name is Donald Carlton. I've been a commercial photographer since 2009, and I've been teaching group photography workshops and private photography lessons since 2011.
My passion for photography started when I took a high school photo class with my father's Nikon camera in 2003. I gained experience shooting everything I could get my hands on, such as events, weddings, real estate, models, products, family portraits, food, landscapes, and headshots. In 2009 while in business school, I decided to turn my passion for photography into a business, and over the years I've become one of the top commercial headshot and product photographers in San Diego. Over the past 9 years I've done thousands of photoshoots for many local and nationwide companies including MTV, FOX Sports, Wells Fargo, Qualcomm, Intuit, and Sony. When I'm not shooting on assignment for clients, my main photographic passion is landscape photography, and I love to travel often and photograph this beautiful planet.
My approach to teaching photography is to make it simple for the student. Photography is often overwhelming with technical terms and "rules", but I break it down in a way that make the content easy to understand and remember for all experience levels. I was once a beginner photographer too, so I put myself in your shoes while teaching you everything you need to know plus tips and tricks I've learned over my years of experience as a working professional and enthusiast.

There is nothing better than doing your passion for a living. Whether I'm out in nature shooting beautiful sunsets or in the studio making my clients look their best so they can make a good first impression with their image, I enjoy every moment I have a camera in my hand.
Teaching is a very rewarding passion for me. I enjoy sharing my knowledge of photography and helping other photographers master their camera while inspiring them to see the world differently through their lens so they can create beautiful works of art that invoke an emotion in the viewers.

In 2011, I started a photography workshop business with my best friend and fellow photographer. Since then, we have taught hundreds of photography workshops from introduction to photography and photography composition to specialty workshops like portrait lighting, landscape photography, photo retouching, and photography business. I've also taought many one-on-one photography lessons over the past 7 years.
I have taught students from ages 13 to 80, from beginners to experienced pros. I've even given lessons to a retired high school photography teacher.
