I love seeing the composition and lighting variables in my mind's eye. I look at a subject, either hired to see or just randomly occuring and I automatically start analyzing the different ways to photograph the image. Having acquired the knowledge of lighting, composition and post processing variables over a lifetime career enable me to 'see' the photo prior to ever picking up the camera. I hope to share this with my students. To see some of my recent work, go to www.TravelerDon.com

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I am currently teaching via Zoom online meetings. It is fast, safe and prevents any Covid related concerns.
The first lesson usually consists of a meet-n-greet and get to know you session in order to determine how I can best teach you what you want to know. From there, I will custom tailor the lessons to suit the student.
Be prepared by bringing the camera you intend to use and if you have any favorite photos that you have taken, bring them along and be prepared to have them critiqued!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have studied under many great photographers, too numerous to mention. Studies at Otis Parsons Fine Arts helped groom me for what I love to do! I learned lighting interning at several Los Angeles Studios including MRS. Worked on many movie and film productions including the Rocky series and movie poster productions. Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Lessons are set in 40 minute increments and are priced at $39.00 per lesson. The first lesson is a double lesson and is also priced at $39.00. Students can set their own schedule for the most part. There will be 'homework' assigned to bring to the next lesson.
How did you get started teaching?
As a Studio Owner and Employer of dozens of people over my career, I have been teaching for decades.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have taught my craft to persons of all walks of society.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently traveled around the world (literally) on a cruise ship and visited 5 continents. Not only do I have more than 10,000 more photos in my catalogs, but I have 2-3 dozen new lifelong friends from the trip!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for someone who is willing to get to know you and understand the ability level that you are at so the learning never becomes confusing.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
1.) Do I like my own photos?
2.) What do I like about my photos?
3.) What don't I like about my photos?
