About this pro

I believe within each of us lives a creative inspiration and when we open to allowing our inner artist out, we can manifest incredible art. My personal goal is to assist each person do just that, and to support already practicing artists to deepen into their creativity.

I am a mix media artist with roots in watercolor painting. I've deveoped into acrylics and other mediums on canvas and in art journals. My newest passion is repurposing old books to create altered books art journals.

I teach online classes to a world-wide audience. I also teach weekly classes at The Artist Loft Studio located upstairs inside Ace Hardware, 2666 Harbor Blvd., Costa Mesa, CA. I also give private lessons in my home studio, for those interested.

I am also a certified Therapeutic Art Life Coach and Reiki Master. I bring a spiritual and healing focus to my lessons, with some playful exerimentation.

For five years I have acted as an assistant curator for several Biennales, under the Directorship of Art Blue. As well, I am also an immersive digital 3D artist in virtual worlds. My 2018 contribution to the 1Biennale, Santorini, Greece won the Long-Legged Maskit Award. In 2017 I was the recipient of the LEA Air Land Grant, which awarded me a six month virtual space in which to build, resulting in the showcase of The Tarot Garden: a journey through the 22 Major Arcana.

I simply love creating. I believe that we each have our own way of bringing light and joy into the world, and making art is the way I do it. There is so much comfort in sharing creative inspiration with other artists, supporting and nurturing each as they need. Playfulness, joy, love and a sense of wonder are so important to me, and they are also at the heart of my classes, which create an opportunity for art and artists to come together in a way that is not intimidating, but warm, inviting, a little magical and above all so much fun. I am a bit of a recluse, always painting or spending time with my family, so these classes also are wonderful for me and make all the difference in my life for they connect me to other incredible artists no matter if they are experienced or just starting out.

Kisma is very creative, inspirational, and an amazing person to work with. Her enthusiasm is contagious, and makes this workshop very productive and lot of fun. Very happy to be taking this art journal class with her.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I have a new student jump right in and go for it, to play and get their fingers messy, and experiment. There is no judgement or criticism in my classes unless I am specifically asked for a professional criticism. My classes are about a person getting in touch with their inner artist, opening to their creative inspiration and letting it flow out and onto the canvas.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have taken private studio classes with several watercolor painters locally since 2015 and also online via ecourses and live streaming. Before that I took several classes while in college.

I became certfified as a Therapeutic Art Life Coach with Udemy in 2018 and have been a certified and registered Karuna Reiki(r) Master with the International Center for Reiki Training since 2005. I bring both modalities into my artistry teachings.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

Private lessons are $35 an hour.

Group classes at the Artist Loft Studio in Costa Mesa are $20 for a three hour class.

My online ecourses average $22, but vary. I do offer a limited amount of free online classes.

How did you get started teaching?

I developed my own online presence and with small groups at my personal home studio a number of years ago.

After being involved as a student at the Artist Loft Studio in Costa Mesa for several years, the manager asked if I would be willing to teach at her studio.

What types of students have you worked with?

Established artists, recovering artists, graphic designers, hobbiest, to first time artist.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

A trip to England late September, where I began having dreams of artistry, waking with fully envisioned paintings. This has begun a new path for me. In the two short weeks I've been back, I've already painted two 36 x 38 canvases and are starting a smaller canvas series (11x14).

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

If you feel excited about her/his artistry and comfortable around them, at least take one class. Taking that first step can change everything for you.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

If a person feels called to take a class, then what matters most is if they like the teachers style. An artist isn't based on years of artist education but on their style. The questions I supposed should be based on schedule and cost IF they like the teacher's style and feel comfortable with that teacher.
