About

My Students are quickly able to recognize the great improvement in their skill level and conficence. I've been coaching and instructing players over 30 years. Have a number of past players in MLB. Basics and fundimentalsare the same but because everybody is physically different, I cater the instruction to their physicality's. I Love teaching baseball.

Coach Clayton was my personal life coach counselor in the most difficult time in my life. I realize through his counseling I was grieving the death of my sister Tiffany through a car accident which I was in. He showed his love and support by inviting me at a lunch period to our baseball field where he evaluated my baseball skills by doing several drills with me. After returning back to school coach summarized my baseball skills by saying I can play at the next level. In my difficulties focusing in school I found myself frustrated and lacking drive. Mr Clayton directed me to change schools. I was reassigned to souljourner truth where I successfully completed my high school graduation. In my senior year I was able to play at Oakland tech high school baseball. I was chosen to play third baseball and closing pitcher for Oakland Tech. Our team won the playoffs and beat Lowell high school for the tri city championships 2017. There is much more to this story rega
rding Mr. Claytons influence encouragement and dedication to my life and future. For any questions regarding references feel free to contact me Matthew Burnoski 4155397372 [email protected]

Ive had the pleasure of knowing Coach Clayon since I was about 5 years old, first meeting him through the Babe Ruth Little League at Greenman Field. It must be said that anybody who coached a team did it strictly out of pure love for the kids, because there is no way they could ever be compensated for what they did for us youth (and they also werent compensated at all anyways lol!).
Since then, Ive played for Coach Clayton at Oakland Tech when he took over the head coaching position, another job of an unsung hero, as coaching a varsity sport within Oakland Public Schools was another level of a labor of love, and he showed up each and every day, and stayed after hours, for players like myself who wanted to get in extra work.
Simultaneously, he began expanding his work from the baseball field to the classrooms, and he became that much needed Black Male figure in the hallways of Oakland Tech that helped students navigate their identities and increase their emotional awareness and intelligence. The impact that hes had on many students lives cannot be put into words, but Id like to say that his actions speak loud enough.

Coach Clayton is the best coach I ever had. The way he encourage’s  everybody to be great on, and off the field is amazing to watch. Coach Clayton is all about inspiring people to be great everyday. He will lead by example, he will not ask you to do anything  that he will not  do himself. Integrity, respect, and hard work is what he is all about. I use life principle’s  he taught me still in my everyday life. He has made me such a better man and I can not thank him enough for that.  Fundamental baseball is what he preaches, and it show’s up on, and off the field.

“Playing under Coach Clayton was a huge part of not only my athletic development but overall maturation as a young man and athlete. He has the highest expectations for ALL of his players and challenges us on and off the field to be the best version of ourselves. He is also one of few coaches who holds his players accountable to their school work. Coach Clayton is not only my baseball coach but a mentor and life coach as well. Under his guidance I have learned so much and he put me in position to be a great leader and I can’t think him enough for that.

Playing at the MLB level, the dialogue between players focuses more on the mental side of the game than anything else. Luckily for me, Coach Clayton sparked these conversations for me as a 9 year old kid. Yes we improved my hitting, fielding, and pitching, but my real development with him was as a thinker, competitor, and teammate. Regardless of how far I made it in baseball, my time with him set me up for whatever I wanted to take on in life.”

I played at all levels except MLB. Injured and no longer able to move up. Have been managing players and teams for since 1997. Starting with M. C. Hammers Oakland Babe Ruth team, multiple Oakland Babe Ruth allstar championship teams and Oakland Technical High School from 2003-2013. 5 straight championships and 3 TransBay championships.

    All ages through pro players.

Myself and one of my players parents at Oakland Tech measured off an open Un-used field at the old Carter Gilmore middle school and turned it into Rickey Henderson Field for Oakland Tech and Oakland youth.

Make sure the coach has your child's best interest at heart and that he/she knows that every players physically is different and you have to teach to that. The fundamentals are the same but body types are not. Coach to the player.

What do they want to accomplish by the training.  How best to work on their own as well to improve their skills. A Diamond is cut one facet at a time.
