About
I have 7 years of tutoring experience with students ages 11-40, and currently tutor chemistry, biology, physics, math, statistics, calculus, SAT/ACT test prep, and essay-writing. I have worked with students from diverse backgrounds, including students with learning differences/disabilities, ADHD, and processing disorders. I strive to tailor my approach to each student's unique needs. Students enjoy working with me because I am understanding and sensitive to the various hardships and barriers issues that high schoolers experience. I am an effective communicator and listener, and students are comfortable asking me for clarification or telling me when something doesn't make sense. I also frequently help students with study and organizational skills when requested, to help them be more effective learners in the future. I earned my Bachelor's degree from UC Berkeley in Molecular & Cellular Biology (Emphasis: Biochemistry) and Integrative Biology.
Students have tremendous potential but often feel lost in class because of the "one-size-fits-all" approach inherent in our school system. The most rewarding aspect of my work is getting to know students, ascertaining their unique needs and learning styles, and then applying this to help them "unlock" their potential. Seeing that "Aha" moment when the concept finally "clicks" is the best part of my job.
