I incorporate a variety of techniques to tailor lessons to students’ unique personalities, goals, and learning styles.
Parents and students have appreciated my passion for teaching, and my use of humor, games, everyday experiences, and the internet to not only explain the material but also to EXCITE students about LEARNING and to become lifelong learners.
Additionally, I don’t just help students to understand and apply lesson content, but I instill in them good study habits, including leveraging techniques like acronyms and associations, that enable them to learn and retain information more consistently and rapidly.
I enjoy watching the progress that my students make not only with the subjects of our lessons, but with those we don't cover. I am also heartened by the gratitude expressed by parents, and occasionally, their teachers at school.
I am invigorated at watching students who had previously struggled with motivation and comprehension, gain confidence and mastery, because we discovered their ideal learning style, which other educators hadn't uncovered.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Initially, I ask the parents and the student, what the desired outcome of the lessons are. If the student has report cards available, I review them.
I measure the difference between the student's current and desired skill levels. After learning from the parent and student, what the student's learning styles are, I craft a learning curriculum that addresses the student's needs and learning styles. Whenever possible, I try to confer with the student's teacher, to ensure consistency between curricula.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Earning a BA in History from Yale College and an MBA from Purdue University, and an Instructor Certificate from Kaplan Academy have provided me a strong foundation for tutoring students a variety of subjects to students of diverse ages and backgrounds.
Completing 10 psychology courses at UC Berkeley and SF State University, has enhanced my ability to quickly grasp student's unique personalities and learning styles, quickly respond to obstacles they encounter, and tailor content that leverages their strengths, while helping them hone skills that require improvement.
Certificates in jazz piano and songwriting from the Dick Grove School of Music, and in HR Management from Cal State East Bay, have further enhanced my experience with content often
