About this pro

Most schools don't teach fundamental observational drawing and painting techniques. When Abstract Expressionism took over in the 1950s, realistic drawing was shunned and the techniques lost. Why? It was associated with Communism. Ironically Abstraction with its extremely open ended interpretations was used in Fascist Spain to promote their propaganda as well. Artistic skill can be used to communicate whatever it is you choose. Choose well please, because I will give you some powerful techniques to improve

As well as practical linear perspective, composition, and for those who are ready, colour.

I teach realistic graphite drawing and oil painting that increases observational skill and visual intelligence. I taught long pose figure drawing at Neologian gallery. I worked at Bay Area Classical Art Atelier for 5 years assisting workshops with famous artists from the East Coast and Europe. I have studied directly under accomplished artists at several Atelier schools, in California and New York. I completed Advanced Artistic Anatomy with Michael Grimaldi, studying from the cadaver at various levels of dissection. I completed an ecorche sculpture with Andy Ameral, former head of Anatomy at the Florence Academy of Art.  I won a full scholarship to attend an artist residency at the New York Academy of Art, completed summer 2017. I have shown in numerous galleries in New York and California including Counter Culture gallery and . I won honourable mention a juried show at Phillis Harriman gallery in Manhattan.

Learning to draw and paint accurately changes the way people see the world. They learn to observe. They see form, light, colour. They see beauty where they would not have noticed it. They can slow down, they can focus, they can find peace in bustling modern life.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I like to have  a 30 minute conversation with new students about their goals. I review their work, address strengths and weaknesses, and determine what skills I can teach them. I know many exercises and techniques to help with most all drawing and painting weaknesses.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I studied with many leading contemporary realists including Michael Grimaldi, Dan Thompson, amd Noah Buchanan. I moved to New York for a year to study from the cadaver, completing Michael Grimaldis advanced artistic Anatomy class. I completed an Ecorche sculpture with Andrew Ameral, former head of Anatomy of the Florence Academy of Art. I studied illustrstion and classical drawinga and painting full time at Safe house Atelier. I studied full time at the Art Students league in New York. I worked for 5 years at Bay Area Classical Art Atelier. I assisted with numerous classes and workshops for famous artists flown in from the East Coast and Europe. I started the Youth drawing classes at Sadie Valero Atelier for teenagers aspiring towards art careers. I started long pose figure drawing classes at Neologian Gallery.
