About

Hey there! My name is Ashley Cunningham and I have been playing flute ever since I was 7 years old. So yes, that makes it 16 years of playing! I am very passionate about music and am looking to aid children or intermediate flautists in channeling their passion into becoming an outstanding musician! All throughout high school I was first chair and was placed with near perfect scores on my auditions. I performed in many different settings; concert, honor, marching, jazz, parades (including the Rose Parade), and lead weekly lessons in high school. I am currently a Preschool Teacher in Riverside and am looking for a way to incorporate more music into my life!

Frequently asked questions

Depending on the age and skill level of the student, I will have them play their favorite song as well as their most practiced song for me. Then, I will do the same for them in order to provide a sort of ice breaker. Next, I will have them play a few scales for me or put sheet music with B Major scale to see where we are with knowledge of music reading. Then I will assess where the musician is and go from there!

I've been playing for 16 years and through many different directors and mentors I became my biggest teacher. I have spent hours perfecting my tone, abiility to read music, music theory, etc. I feel that time is the best training one can have. I've put in countless hours of practice, sweat, and tears into my talent and hope to enstill that into my students!

I charge a flat rate of $30 per 30 minutes which is pretty standard due to the fact that I do not have a degree in music. I have the years and experience :)

I've wanted to be a music director ever since I began playing when I was 7 and am hoping to pursue that dream through going back to school! I have a passion for teaching and have been a Preschool Teacher and an After School Program for Elementary Aged children for the past three years.

Before our first lesson I would like you to first:

1. Figure out why you are reaching out for lessons.

Do you wish to have better tone? To memorize music with more ease? To learn how to hold the darn thing? To prep for marching season and be able to march and play without sounding as though you are running a mile? To be able to read music better?

2. Prep your scales if you know them. Write down all that you know and be ready to play them.

3. Have a piece ready to play for me that you LOVE. One that you think is so FUN to play.

4. Have a piece ready to play for me that you have practiced often.

5. BE EXCITED! We will have a lot of fun while we strive to become better at our talent!
