First, I gauge with them what their artistic goals are. For example, I had a 6 year old student who wanted to learn how to make abstract paintings. So we began with a combination of simple color theory and how to use different mediums of paint. I give my students assignments every week and when we meet, I go over what they made and help them to push it further and further until they feel happy with their outcome. The fun thing about art is that there is always room to grow! There's always more an artist can do! Creativity is endless and having a mentor to help guide you or to bounce ideas off of is an enormous help!
