About

The principles of photography are taught through hands on instruction emphasizing the three principles of a great photograph, 1) Technique, 2) Composition, and 3) Lighting.

The student will be provided with an organized written outline of the materal and will create their own visual reference through shooting demonstrations designed to reinforce the concepts.

With a degree in photography, I have developed classes taught at the college level for Columbia College Hollywood and the Las Vegas Art Institute. From these classes I have distilled a learn by shooting approach that I currently instruct for the City of Santa Clarita and Los Angeles Pierce College extension

I enjoy enabling students to discover their own artistic voice through the photographic medium.

    Frequently asked questions

The first session starts with a discussion of the student's ability level and goals.

Primary instruction is based on understanding the different settings of the camera along with their creative applications.  Once accomplished, a full understanding of the three elememts comprising exposure provides a foundation for consistent results.

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in photography from Brooks Institute of Photography. I have worked in the commercial, industrial, and photo journalism fields. I currently write and shoot articles for Route 66 Magazine.

    $75 per hour of instruction.

I was asked to develop a digital photography class to augment the cinnematograhy program for Columbia College Hollywood.

I have adapted the instruction for several extension classes including Calumet University, Golden Oak Adult School, City of Santa Clarita Seasons, Pierce College, Universtiy of Judaism, and University of Las Vegas.

I have worked with students ages 15 through 75. The student must have the use of a camera, a wiilingness to learn and a passion for visual communication.

With respect to the desired skill set the student is seeking,  communicate that goal with instructor you are considering. Assess whether the instructor is knowlegable, has teaching experience, and can easily communicate concepts.

Students should be able to describe the equipment they have available for use,  an awareness of their own skill level, and a proficiency goal in mind.
