I currently direct the visual arts department at a local school and teach a varieyt of visual arts classes (drawing, painting, introduction to studio art (history, theory and application), and A.P. Studio Art (Drawing and 2-D Design). I have taught and worked as a professional artist with an international exhibition record for over two decades. I received a B.F.A degree in Painting from Rhode Island School of Design and a M.F.A. degree in Painting from Washington University in St. Louis. You can view expamples of my work at http://www.arnorbieltvedt.com/
My favorite acitivity is to paint and draw. I have loved creating drawings, prints, paintings and sculpture since I was a young boy in Iceland. I believe art teaches me and my students to get to know oneself at a deeper level and see the world around us with greater clairty and appreciation than ever before. The room for growth and progress in art is boundless.
I love Arnor’s profound knowledge of painting and his devotion to the class and the student!
We schedule a meeting after 4 p.m. on weekdays or mornings or afternoons of weekends and meet either at my home in Pasadena or at the student's home. Our first meeting will be used to generate a plan for our work together. I recommend we meet at least once a week to help develop the student's skills and appreciation of art.
I have been a department chair and visual arts instructor at three different private schools in the last two decades. I tutored throught the local Art League in Winnetka, IL, for three years. As a internationally represented painted I have considerable experience in creating, promoting and exhibiting visual artwork.
Each hourlong session costs $100. There is no minimum limit as to how many classes the students need to sign up for with me. If students travel to my home for their lesson the rate is $80 per session.
After getting a B.F.A. and M.F.A. degree in painting I decided to try teaching for a year and liked it so much that I decided to devote my career to both beaching and creating art.
I have mainly worked with high school students but have about a decade experience in also working with Middle Schoolers. I am happy to work with children or adults of all ages.
One of my A.P. students recently got accepted to my old school, R.I.S.D., made me very proud.
Use the first meeting to get a feel and better understanding of how well you can cooperate and work together. Look for a teacher with a lot of experience in both teaching and creating art.
In which area do you need help? Which goals are you setting for yourself? Why are you intersted in visual art? What are your current main strengths and challenges?
