About

As an academically trained painter, I bring a strong traditional perspective in my teaching. I understand the challenges of exploring the visual world through drawing and painting and interact with my students in a patient and supportive manner.

I love to guide my students in developing an awareness of the visual world around them and developing a mastery of drawing and painting skills.

    Frequently asked questions

I start with a discussion about the student wants to learn and then view samples of their work. Based on that, I then created a curriculum and discuss with the student.

I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of Illinois at Chicago. My academic drawing and painting training was received at The School of Representational Art in Chicago. This a school of academic realism where I studied under three master painters for four years.

    Generally, my fee is $40.00/hour.

As a student, my teachers recognized my skills and my ability to articulate how I went about drawing and painting. This I have found to be very important in conveying information to my students.

I have worked with a broad range of students including children, college age students, adults and retired adults. Students I have worked with ranged from beginners to intermediate and professional levels.

Recently, I received a winning placement for my portrait drawing of my son in the Portrait Society of America’s Members Only competition for 2018. The portrait was of him wearing his All Star baseball uniform prior to the All Star game, and playing baseball is something he and I have been doing together since he was 2-years-old.

Know what you want to learn and pick a teacher most suited to guiding you with that. It sounds simple, but if you want to learn how to draw realistic portraits then hiring a teacher who paints abstractly may not be the best match.

What does the student want to learn and where are they in their artistic development. Additionally, do they want to learn for professional reasons or is it more for pleasure.
