About
I teach out of my recording studio in Altadena. This allows me to record the students if needed and also allows the students to be able to play along to musical tracks. I have been teaching for 40 years and draw upon my vast teaching and professional playing experience with the world's greatest musicians to give the students the materials they need to achieve their goals. I am also a professor at LA College of Music, the University of Redlands and Cal Poly Pomona. I also teach a handful of private students of varying ages from 8-60. I am fully vaccinated so can do online or on site lessons, whichever you prefer. I tailor my lessons to each student's needs and goals and don't use a cookie cutter approach to teaching.
I enjoy teaching all levels of students and am a very patient tutor, as long as the student practices. I love seeing each student progress according to his or her unique abilities and talents. I like the fact that I can teach at home and make my own hours. I also have extensive experience teaching online courses
I am also a professional drummer as well as a teacher. Some of my touring and recording credits include Rick Springfield, Gloria Estefan, Q-Tip, Robby Krieger (The Doors), Andy Summers (The Police), Michael Bublé, Josh Groban, Yanni, Allan Holdsworth, Al Dimeola, Joe Sample and The Crusaders, David Foster. I have recorded on dozens of movie, TV and video game soundtracks, including Guitar Hero, Rock Band, Grand Torino, Anchorman, Witches of Waverly place, etc.
The lessons are $50 for 30 min, $70 for 45 min, $90 for an hour, depending on what you need and can afford.
Please let me know if you have any questions. I hope to hear from you so that we can figure out a plan to get you what you need.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I ask them to demonstrate what they understand about technique, groove and musical styles on their instrument. I also ask them what books and teachers they have studied with in the past and I will progress from there. If they are a beginning student, I start them off on very basic techniques and skills.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BM from Berklee College of music in Boston. I have been on staff at Musicians Institute in Hollywood (1990-95) and I'm currently the drum set professor at the University of Redlands and Cal Poly Pomona.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $75 per hour or $40 per half hour. If I have to travel to the student I charge an extra amount to be determined for my travel.
How did you get started teaching?
After graduating from Berkeley College of music in Boston, I moved to New York City and started teaching privately in the area.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with beginners, intermediate, advanced and professional level students. Many of my students have become professional drummers.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Every year for the past 18 years, I have been the house drummer for the international jazz festival Jazz Province based in Russia. I also have been traveling and performing at the Java Jazz Festival in Indonesia for the past four years.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure the teacher is also a professional musician and has many years of experience teaching his instrument.
