About
Welcome to The Art Room!
I have been teaching Art classes of all kinds for over 27 years to students aged 5-85 years!
Drawing, painting, printmaking, mixed-media, clay, & papier maché, are just some of the mediums I teach.
I have a BA degree in Fine Art from Long Beach State University.
For over 27 years, I have been the Art teacher at St. Mary's High School in Stockton, as well as the Fine Arts Department Chair. There, I teach full time, everything from beginning level to advanced, as well as AP Art & Design.
I love teaching Art classes outside of the school day also, to anyone who shares my passion!
Art has always been the one thing, (aside from my family), that brings me infinite joy! I simply have to be creating art every single day. It really brings me peace!
Teaching Art and sharing my passion with others is so fun and rewarding! I love to be a part of someone else's creative discoveries. Each student's artwork should be their own unique piece- not a copy of someone elses!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
After determining a student's skill level and artistic interests, I introduce projects that will challenge and help them to grow as artists, but most of all, have fun creating!
Unlike most art studios around, I do not believe in the "let's all copy the same painting" method of teaching! I strive to inspire each student's unique, individual voice and allow them to bring their own creative self to the surface.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching Art classes over 27 years ago, when St. Mary's High School invited me to join their staff.
All of my jobs prior to teaching, were creative in nature, and I still create commissioned artwork!
What types of students have you worked with?
I have been teaching children as young as 5 years old through adults, from beginners to advanced levels.
Anyone and everyone!!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
My advice would be to allow yourself to be open to new ideas and techniques! There are so many endless possibilities in Art!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
It's very helpful when students share with teachers what their particular interests are and what types of art they would be excited to explore.
