About
Perhaps because I experienced acute emotional trauma with the death of my mother at age five, and carried extra responsibilities taking care of my younger brothers at the time, music has always served as comfort, solace, and a prayer language expressing my deepest emotions along the way - it is my desire to instill in my students the skills they need to enjoy the same healing joy that music offers to all. I knew that I really wanted to work with students privately, so I completed 3-5 year courses of study in Kodaly and Suzuki methodologies (neither of which are offered in standard undergraduate music teaching programs). I believe this gave me the best possible training I could have in order to teach privately. Now with 20+years of teaching experience, I have gained much experience and expertise in diagnosing quickly what will improve almost anyone's playing. I have coached 70 students through the rigourous Royal Conservatory Exam requirements, most receiving above average marks. I love starting beginners - most of which stay with me through their high school years (6-8 years), and without exception, have developed into competant soloists and ensemble players - and that is my mission - to lay the groundwork for a lifetime of enjoying the community that music provides, as well as the solitude.
