About
Understanding of technical and artistic skills for landscape photography.
Greatly skilled in all the technical aspects - including open source software tools, using filters, adapting manual lenses, tilt shift photography and panoramas.
Enjoys teaching!
I enjoy the act of teaching, experimenting to capture things as I want to remember them. As a tinkerer by vocation, I personally enjoying customizing my camera with open source software, use many older manual lenses, including lenses for Medium formats.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Understand what their objectives are and tailor lessons to maximize their learning.
How did you get started teaching?
I regularly conducted classes in San Jose Photography group - starting all the way from beginners to advanced techniques.
What types of students have you worked with?
Both beginners and advanced who want to learn of specific techniques - filters, panoramas, tilt-shift lenses, open source software.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
The teacher must be able to get the student interested in the process. This is a continued learning process and has to be enjoyable for the student to persist!
Ones needs to get the technical matters out of the way to the extent possible as early as possible. Then the student can experiment with all the techniques as they encounter new situations.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
If the student has a very clear objective, then it helps to state that. It also helps, if the student communicates how they like to learn - specially of the kinds - I do not want to spend much time on the computer changing images (want to capture everything in the field etc). It also helps if the student has ideas of what they would like to do.
It helps the instructor to tailor the instructions to the interests of the student. The instructor can be better prepared with the material as well.
