About
I have insights into the creative process, the techniques of painting and drawing, and more importantly, the richness and depth of being alive which comes from decades of being a dedicated artist awakening to my true nature. (See my educational art website www.perception4u.com for examples of my work.)
You will see by the range of my work that I will be able to assist and guide you through almost any need you have that might arise.
The sense of accomplishment as I see students increased enthusiasm for art, for living - as I see them on the road to achieving their goals and realizing their highest potential with tools I was gifted in giving them.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, I would want to find out what the student wants to achieve in art—and in their life, and then what they feel stands in the way of them being able to accomplish that.
Then we would enter into a discussion on how they would like to proceed to address these issues in a practical way.
After this introductory phase, we would begin painting with the three-fold aim:
• To first have the student choose their subject and their depiction of it based on a deep emotional/intuitive response instead of just on compositional considerations, yet combining both.
• Second, to share painting techniques that will allow students to express their deep experience of the subject.
• Thirdly, to have the student complete one finished piece within one to three lessons (or in some cases more), depending upon the student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Decades of painting (see my website:(www.perception4u.com)
Private instruction in painting and figure drawing.
Eight years of college art instruction at Clemson University, University of California Santa Barbara, Chico State University.
I was an apprentice under the nationally known artist, Richard Goetz and helped him and his wife run their summer art workshop in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1973.
I designed and developed my educational art website and painted many of the paintings specifically to illustrate a point on the website.
I give talks on levels of perception using images of my paintings to illustrate my point to the audience.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
One and a Half Hour Instruction (better for children) - Painting on location or in the studio
Private: $95.00
Three Hour Instruction - Painting on location or in the studio
Private: $185.00 Small Group (2-3): $280
For larger groups, (a large studio or classroom would need to be provided): $650.
Workshops
If you wish me to conduct a three-day workshop in your area, (4 hours each day) the fee is: $1,800
My aim in these workshops is three-fold:
• To first have the student choose their subject and their depiction of it based on a deep emotional/intuitive response instead of just on compositional considerations, yet combining both.
• Second, to share painting techniques that will allow students to express their deep experience of the subject.
• Thirdly, to have the student leave the workshop with at least one finished piece.
How did you get started teaching?
There was a desire to help and inspire others and I saw the need around me.
What types of students have you worked with?
Children to adult. Beginners to advanced. Those who just have a light curiosity about art to the serious art student.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I was giving a child an art lesson. His mother was a musician and was also giving the child music lessons. I told him to study the landscape giving special attention to its energy before we began to paint. Meanwhile I went to my car to get some more art supplies, and when I returned I saw him rocking back and forth and humming.
I was curious and asked him what he was doing, and he said, "I am playing the landscape." That thrilled me for then I knew he was beginning to perceive the landscape on a deeper level.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look at their paintings. Is there something that resonates with you from looking at them? Do they create a hunger - a longing to learn more? Do the paintings inspire you to go deeper into your own creative process? If so, read what the artist/teacher has to say, and then go talk with them and see what your intuition and heart tells you about them and if you are a good fit.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What is my relationship to art? What is my purpose in doing art, for myself...for others? How can I keep my art alive and vital? And in what ways can a teacher inspire me to grow as an artist...as a human being?
