Nearly everything (aside from having an amazing ear for recognizing that βone wrong note,β wrongly played in a musical score - which is his job), Harley is a find. He is easy, fun, philosophic, and passionate about finding a way for musical talent to be brought out into more light He gets that many students sell themselves short and has a way to have uncertainty or timidness turn into a confident smile. Acceptance of the student, right where he (or she) is, begets more acceptance, more playing confidence, and less self-consciousness. He believes in his students, however they are put together. He is so good at bringing students together, to believe in themselves, that Iβve long felt he should franchise his knack for teaching. Harley has been my instructor for nearly 18 years. I stick with him because Iβm getting better. I stick with him because he has heart, because he celebrates life and music, because he is genuinely like a father, a brother, a teacher, a preacher, historian, philosopher, and most of all - a friend.

Harley has incredible knowledge, from music history, theory, the players and their styles, and uses this knowledge to help students understand what they are doing and why. He tailors his lessons to each students level, and makes sure that the lessons are fun, challenging and interesting, which keeps us motivated. Ive worked with several teachers over the years and Olive had something to offer, but Harley is by far the best. He is a natural teacher. He has a good sense of humor but also keeps you on task. From the Beatles, to Bossa Nova, and Miles to Monk, Harley knows it and can help you get there.

I have worked with Harley for the past 10 years. He has brought his genius to all of the songs Iβve written and brought them to life. He is an inspiration and I feel it is a privilege to work with someone like Harley. Nobody does what he does when it comes to music except somebody like Quincey Jones. Consider yourself lucky if he takes you on as a student. Heβs the best of the best hands down.
