Stephen Millington, Millington Strings Music

I was destined to love cello by virtue of my family history. My family is rich in musical accomplishment, but specifically my paternal grandfather was an amateur cellist and I was lucky enough to obtain the cello that my grandfather owned and played all his life.

I am fortunate in that I play and arrange music professionally. But another sweet spot of a musical career for me is teaching, especially helping adult beginners, returnees to the cello, and adults transitioning from other instruments. I am patient and kind, if I do say so myself, and really appreciate being able to help those new to the cello later in life.

My personal musical study began when I was a kid in the Sacramento public schools, and continued with many extraordinary teachers in this area. Ultimately, I earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s of Music in Cello Performance from Sacramento State University.

I have played section and principal cello in numerous regional orchestras, as well as casino orchestras in Reno and Tahoe. My musical interests are broad, from classical to rock.

When Anne and I married in 1990, we formed Millington Strings Music. I am the principal of the group, and also arrange and compose music for the ensemble to play.
