More than a teacher of how to use your camera, I help you learn technique and art and act as a mentor in your journey with photography! I've been working as a photography and graphic designer for over twenty years and have enjoyed photography as a hobby and passion for over thirty. Professionally, I've primarily photographed people, events, and products. I also photograph nature, cityscapes, travel and landscapes for stock photography and for pure enjoyment.
Price for instruction is negotiable for those interested in long term instruction and mentorship. If you just want to learn how to use your camera I can help but might not be the best fit for you. If however, you want to really learn how to be a better photographer, how to improve your images through the use of composition, control of the camera, subject placement, lighting, and more, then we might make a good match!

I love photography and I love to teach! So many photography teachers concentrate on only how to use a camera. I enjoy mentoring others and helping develop an appreciation for the art and the skill necessary to move beyond relying on the equipment to make a great image.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I provide a 30 minute meeting at no charge to discuss the student's needs and collect information to develop a learning plan. I then tailor the instruction to the needs and current ability of my student. I develop technical knowledge along with artistic ability and expression and act as a mentor along their journey into photography.
Most of my photography is done on location at a clients home or business or out in nature. I also perform headshots and portraits in a small home studio. I usually meet my students at their home or public space but it depends on the needs of the student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've worked professionally in photography and graphic design for over twenty years shooting portraits, events, weddings, product, travel, and city and landscapes for both clients and stock.

Although I have advertised prices on my website I'm always open to negotiation for a passionate student who is looking for long term instruction and mentorship. I will also volunteer my services for special circumstances or certain charities or events. I offer every student a free 30 minute consultation to discuss their goals and work out a fair pricing structure.
How did you get started teaching?
I was asked to be the staff trainer for a company I'd worked for when I was younger. I've been involved in various camera clubs and was asked by friends and family to teach them because they felt I gave very clear instruction. I've taught classes on photography, graphic design, photo editing, and branding.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Technical ability is important but being a clear communicator, providing clear feedback, and having patience are equally if not more important traits in a good teacher. Make sure the teacher you select is one you feel will be able to understand your needs and provide clear direction.
