John Emery Music Lessons
About
I explain musical concepts in a way that students can understand. I also make music fun and stimulating to learn - so that students will actually look forward to performing and practicing!
I have learned so much from my many teachers and experiences over the last 15 years in music. I love sharing this knowledge with others and seeing them get excited when they reach that next level in music - either by learning that next song, riff, or even getting that high note on the sax to finally come out just right!
It brings me great joy to get others started on their musical journey and help them along the way.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I try to assess what level they are at by hearing them play, and then ask them what are 3 songs or solos that they like and why they like them. I try to get a feel for the style of music they want to play and what their short, medium and long-term goals are. I believe in strong fundamentals but I won't bore the student with mind-numbing drills or endless scales. I show the student the fundamental techniques that they can utilize to get the job done and start playing better today.
