About
I have been teaching surfing for over 12 years. It took a really long time to figure out what works and what doesnt. Through trial and error I have developed a process to help you learn surfing from the bottom up. You will learn soooo much including paddling, popping up, reading waves, identifying rip currents and so much more. I bring my program into centers for people struggling with mental illness. If you Google Stoked on Recovery all sorts of stuff comes up including my reviews. I also have a Facebook page called Stoked on Recovery where you can find reviews as well as Yelp Orange County (Having trouble converting it to San Diego). I currently have several regular clients, who meet once a week.
I am a former school teacher. (My hair was shorter and combed to the side to conceal the surf bum within). Ha. With that being said, I have a 14 year old girl who sees me twice a week. Two sisters 12 and 13, a 9 year old boy. I love getting the kids out in the water. As young as 6 is ok with medium! Giving lessons to couples is always a blast. I meet so many cool people and I build lasting friendships, with some of my clients. Can't swim. No problem.
I'm always welcoming novice surfers to the crew. We have beach BBQs three times in the summer. Some of my current and former clients come out for food and surfing, and its a great time.
my purpose in life is to impart all of my surfing experience and knowledge that I have accumulated throughout the years. Kind of a humble existence, but its the only part of me that i get absolute fulfillment and purpose from. Whether you suffer from mental illness or not, surfing improves overall vitality and wellbeing for anyone who surfs regularly. To be a part of that, is a blessing, and watching my clients get hooked after they stand up for the first time, does so much for me and in so many different ways. I'm your guy. San Diego born and raised. I'm wild and fun. I'm smart, I'm safe and I know what I'm doing. Talk soon! Vaya con olas
I absolutely love what I do and I'm always watching videos on proper surf instruction, to better serve my clients. If you are looking to surf just once and have fun, you can find that instructor anywhere. If you're looking to learn how to surf properly, to constantly be challenged, and see consistent improvement in your surfing, then I'm your guy.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We meet at the beach and talk a little bit to get to know each other. We learn a lot of safety stuff on land and we learn how to pop up. Then we spend an hour in the water learning how to work with me as a team. We usually spend a little time afterward talking and setting up a time for the next lesson.
The first lesson is 1.5 hours and costs 80. After that lessons are an hour and cost 70
