About this pro

I have over 25 years of intercollegiate, scholastic and private coaching experience. I played semi-professionally and have coached professional players, high-level intercollegiate D1 players and scholastic players as well as beginners of all ages.

I'm just as passionate now if not more than I was when I first started playing and coaching and teaching in 1988.

I have participated in all-conference events as well as coached teams to the NCAA tournament.

I have helped dozens of players earn scholarships to 4-year schools and make their high school teams so I have a unique insight into this.

I teach empowerment and believe in visualization and in the psychology of sport as much as training players the proper mechanics and skill-sets necessary to compete at the highest level.

If you want your child to learn the most fundamental skills to be the best basketball player they can be, Coach Hootner is the go to coach. My daughter's ball handling skills and discipline for the game have far exceeded my expectations in a very short period of time. So happy we found him.

I golf two or three times a year, so would not expect to be anyone's favorite student. Coach Hootner was patient, adjusted my grip, filmed my driving-range swing multiple times, offering helpful suggestions and corrections and even emailed my my best swing of the day to emulate. The proof of the power of his lesson materialized four days later when I played the second nine of a short course in Las Vegas and had one one of the best rounds of my life. In a more perfect world, I would practice and play more, then regularly come back to Hootner for the continued work I need. As it stands, I will see him again, likely again a few days before I head out to play.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I try and assess the strengths and weaknesses as well as their goals and personality type. And then we go from there.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have been coaching and teaching at the collegiate level for over 25 years. I have worked with pros to kids. I have a Master's Degree.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

I charge for individual lessons $50 an hour for a single lesson. Group lessons will vary based on the number of people.

How did you get started teaching?

I was offered a graduate assistantship in college to complete my master's degree for free and teach and coach and I jumped at the opportunity.

What types of students have you worked with?

Pros to kids. College to high school.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

Any time my former players go overseas or make their high school teams or college programs and then have success makes me so proud and I love watching them evolve mentally and athletically as well as academically.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Ask lots of questions. Talk to current and former clients. And try different coaches to see who is the best fit.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

What success have my clients had. What success and failures did I endure when training myself to try and accomplish my goals.
