About

Hi my name is Nick Hirai, and I am a true student of the game. I've always loved basketball my entire life, but my passion for the game began as a child in parks of East Baltimore. I've attended numerous five star basketball camps throughout the country under Howard Garfinkel and have played alongside countless college athletes. I graduated from University of Maryland with a degree in kinesiology as my sights were set on coaching from a young age. My first job out of college was a coaching position for the mens varsity high school team at my alma mater in Baltimore. But enough about me...

I'm happy to train with either boys or girls ages 10 and up. I love teaching basketball to anyone wants to learn the finer points of the game. I especially enjoy those who like challenging themselves to get better on daily basis. So whether you are training to make your high school team or just looking to improve your ball handling and shooting mechanics out at the neighborhood court, give me a call! Shooters welcome!!!

What I enjoy most is watching the maturation of young student athletes. I also like challenging myself to become a better teacher just as I challenge my students to become better players. Just about everything worth anything...takes hard work! Let's get it!

Frequently asked questions

I always start by getting to know my student and see what exactly they are looking to accomplish from the training. Some people want to work on their all around game, others just like to work on shooting or ball handling. Once we decide what we want to get out of our training and what our goals are, then we decide what types of drills will help us reach these goals. At which point we lace the shoes up and get to work!

I have a batchelors in Kinesiology from University of Maryland as sport has always been my concentration. I've also helped coached at numerous basketball/soccer camps in Maryland. I've also coached the men's varsity team at Friends School of Baltimore.

First lesson is FREE and will run just short of an hour. This is because I like to meet my students and talk for about ten minutes and then train for about remaining time. This 1st lesson will allow me to see where the player's current skill level is and design a more specific program for the following sessions. Each individual session after the first free session is $30/hour

I started working my first sports camp at age 12 and have never looked back.

I've worked with male and female athlete in both middle school and high school. I've coached baseball, basketball, and soccer all at a competitive level.

Decide specifically what you want to get better at before you start working.  Meet your teacher, speak with your teacher, talk with them about things other than sports, and make sure you like their instruction before signing up for an entire set of classes. Just because someone can play basketball, doesn't mean they can teach it. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!
