Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First and foremost we LISTEN in order to understand our students needs. Any and all questions are answered and sugestions are given as needed. We make sure the student has the proper paperwork and schedule their first lesson
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
All of our instructors have had 60hrs. of classroom type of instruction which include: rules of the road, techniques of teaching, first aid, traffic laws, DMV requirements and more. In addition 20hrs. of actual behind the wheel/observation type of instruction. I personally was born and raised in Marin county and have over 35yrs. of teaching experience. My father actually opened the school in 1962. It has been family owned and operated since that time.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
ABC DRIVING SCHOOL charges $72.50/hr. All lessons are tailored to the student and progress is based on the students ability. No two students are alike therefore we do not take a cookie cutter type of approach with any of them.
How did you get started teaching?
I have always enjoyed teaching/coaching of any kind. Teaching people how to drive allows me to teach a skill that my students will utilize for their entire lives.
What types of students have you worked with?
We have taught students from the age of 15 all the way up to the age of 92. All skill levels of students have come to us for instruction. We have taught individuals with various types of disabilities, both physical impairments and learning disabilities.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
We recieved a phone call from a parent requesting training for their child. The last name and address rang a bell for us. This student was the last of their five children to take lessons from us. I am happy to say all of their children passed the road test the first time with a score of 90% or higher.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
The best advice I could give a prospective student is to speak to their friends about their experience with a school. Look for a school that has been in business for a good amount of time and has instructors that have been with them for years.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should think about their goals and ask the instructor the best way to achieve them. As a student remember to rely on your instructors experience.
