About

I am a very well trained performing guitar player, I still gig regularly. I've had a broad range of professional experience in many different styles of guitar playing.

I feel all this real world musical experience helps me identify underlying blind spots in a student's technique or musical understanding.

I also have the musical training and technical background to give the student effective instruction and to help them move past whatever it is that's blocking them from being able to play the guitar way they desire to, and to create the music they want to express.

It's very satisfying to show people that there is a way to better their music/playing, and ultimately to better themselves through the gift of practicing music!

    Frequently asked questions

If the student has any experience playing I ask them to: "Describe what it is that you would like to be able to play/do on your guitar that you are having trouble playing/doing now".

If the student is a beginner then I ask what kind of music inspired them to begin learning the guitar.

Early exposure to jazz through educational programs (b.1979 SF, CA) allowed me to participate in the Monterey Jazz Festival, and the Grammy in the Schools programs as part of the San Francisco Jazz Festival. In pursuit of his musical vision, he has also studied privately on guitar, piano with some of the most respected pedagogues in the field of modern music.
William A. Mathieu – author of The Harmonic Experience, Inner Traditions and Bridge of Waves, Shambhala.
Dušan Bogdanovic – taught Classical guitar at USC, SF Conservatory and currently teaches at the Geneva Conservatory in Switzerland.
Kevin R. Gallagher – studied with Sharon Isbin at Julliard, won the Francisco Tárrega Guitar Competition (1997).

I typically charge $75 per hour, for that rate I am happy to travel to student's homes within the greater Bay Area. I do offer discounts for lesson packages and I do have some mileage restrictions for traveling to students homes. Please contact for further details.

I started out teaching friends what I had learned from my teachers, soon after I began formally teaching private students.

Young beginners to advanced peers and adults.

I have played professionally and taught Jazz, Classical, Rock/Pop/Metal, Experimental, and Acoustic guitar.

I perform regularly all over the greater Bay Area. I am always grateful to play music for others and to try and better myself as a guitarist and as a performer.

Find a teacher who is literate in music (can read/write, theory etc.), open minded about different genres and eras of music, and most importantly someone who listens to you and can adapt their teaching style to help you reach your goals.

"What do I want to be able to play or create with my instrument?"
