What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Discuss the student's specific needs, areas to work on, which part of the curriculum they're at, etc. I may also give short assignments if needed.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
B.S. in mathematics, computer science at UC San Diego. 3 years of software engineering and tutoring experience.
How did you get started teaching?
I started tutoring in high school, as I'd always enjoyed helping friends understand difficult concepts. I had an unconventional way of understanding them, which is an advantage over the traditional teaching of "one correct way" to solve problems. I enjoy exploring new approaches that may work better for different students.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
A teacher who's genuinely invested in your success, with a good balance of pushing you and being supportive.
