YMCA Camp Jones Gulch

About this pro

We provide beginner lessons on recurve takedown bows at a youth and family camp in a beautiful redwood forest.

I was introduced to archery at a very young age and have been teaching all ages for 6 years.

Archery is great for focus and is something that everyone can do together no matter the skill level.  It's a great, afordable way to have fun with the entire family, or just you and your bow.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

We'll start with basic safety and components of the bow.  We'll then move into technique.  Lessons are typically ~30 minutes with an additional 30 minutes of shooting and practice.  Instructor remains on to help improve shooting during the practice period.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

USA Archery Level 1 Instructor Certification.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

$35/person for up to 1 hour.

Group pricing: $75/hour for up to 16 people. (Group lessons run very differently than private lessons.  Please call for more information.)

How did you get started teaching?

I started working in youth programs that had access to archery.  Since it was a passion of mine when I was younger I worked hard to improve our archery program.  I have been working with youth for 25 years in a number of capacities.

What types of students have you worked with?

Youth and adults.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Be clear on what your goals are.  Certain instructors have specific strengths.
