About

Creating beautiful images has been a passion of mine for... well, my whole life. I always loved taking pictures with a disposable film camera when I was little on summer vacations with my family. 12 years ago, I decided to turn that passion into a career.

When I was a Teaching Assitant in college, I discovered my love of teaching aspiring photographers. I enjoy sharing my knowledge of photography with others, and I could talk all day about anything and everything related to photography.

Photography Lessons can include any/all of the following:

>> How to shoot in Manual Mode on your DSLR/Mirrorless camera, and understanding the exposure triangle.

>> Understanding the rules of composition (rule of thirds, leading lines, contrasting colors, framing, negative space, etc.)

>> Understanding the differences between RAW vs. JPEG.

>> How to use Adobe Lightroom for cataloging and editing images.

>> When and how to use Black & White vs. Color in photographs.

>> Manipulating natural light, and the best times of day to shoot outdoors.

>> Using artificial (studio) lighting.

>> History of photography.

>> Genre specific lessons (portraiture, landscape, weddings, commercial, etc.).

My Education:

>> I started off teaching myself the basics of photography when I got my first DSLR in 2008 using family and friends as models.

>> From 2011 to 2014, I took courses with the New York Institute of Photography.

>> 2015 - 2018, I went to college and got my AA in Digital Photography.

In my career as a freelance photographer...

>> I've won multiple awards for my photography.

>> My work has been seen in over a dozen publications.

>> I have experience in nearly every genre of photography, including weddings, products, landscapes and cityscapes, maternity, and family portraits.

Some notable clients of mine include the City of Vista (California), the San Diego County Bar Association, the National MS Society, ZRG LLC, and ZCode Media.

When I photograph weddings, I focus on the emotions happening around me. Those candid moments are the best ones to capture. I also love focusing on the details that people might miss.

With commercial photography and personal branding, I enjoy using my marketing knowledge to help small businesses, and I like getting to know local business owners and artists so that I can incorporate their personalities into their brand through photography.

    Frequently asked questions

When I start working with a new student, I first want to know how much they know about photography. Are they completely new? Have they been shooting for a few years?

From there, I can modify my lessons to fit each student's needs.

I have 12 years of experience as a freelance photographer, and I'm currently a full-time photographer. I specialize in weddings, commercial photography, and personal branding.

I have taken courses with the New York Institute of Photography and I have an AA in Digital Photography.

    Lessons are $40 per hour.

I like to do lessons two times each week for at least 8 weeks. Lessons are mostly online, but there are a few lessons where I meet up with a student at Balboa Park or the Oceanside Pier for more specific lessons.

I fell in love with teaching when I was a Teaching Assistant for Beginning Digital Photography in college. I love getting to share my experiences and the things I've learned in my career with aspiring photographers.

    Mostly college aged students, 18+.

Look for someone who is currently a working professional and have real life experience with photography. They are the best mentors to have.
