Frequently asked questions

When I start working with a new student, my goal is to set a strong foundation and make sure we’re targeting the specific areas they need to improve. Here’s how I typically approach it: Initial Evaluation and Video Analysis: We begin with an in-depth video assessment, capturing footage of their swing, stance, fielding, or pitching mechanics, depending on their position and goals. This lets us break down every movement and pinpoint strengths and areas for improvement. Customized Drill Plan: Based on that analysis, I design a series of concentrated drills tailored specifically for your child. This isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach—every player has unique needs, and our drills reflect that, focusing on the aspects that will have the most impact on their performance. Focused Machine Training: I have a machine that provides precise, repetitive practice, which is critical for refining muscle memory. Whether it’s honing their swing timing, improving hand-eye coordination, or enhancing fielding consistency, this tool allows us to zero in on those mechanics in a controlled, highly focused way. Regular Feedback and Adjustments: As we work, I continually monitor progress through additional video reviews and hands-on observation. Every few sessions, we reassess and adjust drills as needed to make sure your child is developing in the right areas. Building Confidence: Ultimately, I want each player to not only improve technically but to feel more confident and excited about their game. I work closely with them to ensure they’re seeing their own progress, which is key to staying motivated. This process allows me to support each student in reaching their fullest potential with personalized, data-driven training.
My background in baseball is rooted in over 20 years of hands-on experience and specialized training in player development. I’ve worked extensively with young athletes, focusing on the technical and strategic aspects of the game, and refining my skills in video analysis and drill instruction over the years. In addition to my practical experience, I’ve completed advanced courses and certifications that focus on youth coaching, biomechanics, and training techniques specifically for baseball. I also stay updated with the latest tools and technologies in baseball training, such as the precision machine I use to deliver highly focused, concentrated instruction. All of this means that my methods are grounded in both experience and modern training science, ensuring I provide the best instruction for each player I work with.
I charge $75 for one hour of instruction.
I got started teaching baseball because I wanted to share my love for the game and help younger players develop a solid foundation in their skills. Initially, I began by working with my son and other kids in my community, offering guidance on fundamental techniques like hitting, fielding, and throwing. As I saw the impact this had on their confidence and game performance, I realized how much I enjoyed helping young athletes reach their potential. That’s when I decided to expand my expertise and dive deeper into video analysis, advanced drills, and focused training methods. Over time, I developed a structured approach that combines my years of baseball experience with a commitment to individualized instruction. Now, I’m able to provide tailored, high-quality training to each student I work with, helping them unlock new levels in their game.
I’ve had the privilege of working with a wide range of young athletes, primarily kids aged 8 to 13 who are passionate about baseball and motivated to improve. Many of them come to me at different stages in their development—some are just getting started and need help with the basics, while others already have solid skills and are looking to refine specific aspects of their game, like swing mechanics or fielding precision. I’ve also worked with kids who may be struggling with confidence or consistency, and my approach is designed to help them overcome those challenges by building on their strengths and addressing any weaknesses head-on. Each student’s needs are unique, and I tailor my methods to fit their individual goals, skill level, and learning style. Whether they’re aiming to excel on their travel team or just want to be the best they can be, I’m here to guide them every step of the way.
I'm proud to coach and manage the Lamorinda Baseball Club. Last year, we were #2 in the State of California and #1 in Northern California.
For a young athlete or parent looking to hire a baseball instructor, I’d suggest focusing on three key areas: experience, teaching approach, and adaptability. Experience with Youth Players: Look for someone with a strong track record working with kids in your child’s age range. Teaching baseball to younger players requires patience, clear communication, and an understanding of how kids learn best. Years of experience, combined with a genuine connection to youth coaching, can make a huge difference in a player’s progress. Teaching Approach: A good coach should offer more than just drills; they should use methods that help players understand why certain techniques work. Ask potential instructors about their process and look for someone who combines video analysis, personalized drills, and regular feedback. This kind of structured, data-driven approach ensures each session is productive and tailored to the player’s needs. Adaptability and Progress Tracking: Baseball is a game of small adjustments, and a great teacher knows how to adapt their methods as the player grows. Look for someone who regularly assesses progress, adjusts goals, and builds confidence as well as skills. This flexibility helps students stay motivated and keeps training aligned with their goals.
Before meeting with a baseball instructor, it’s helpful for students and parents to think through a few key questions to make sure the training aligns with their goals and needs. Here are a few questions that can guide this process: What specific skills or areas do I want to improve? – Think about whether your child needs help with hitting mechanics, fielding consistency, pitching accuracy, or general game strategy. The more specific the goals, the easier it will be to communicate those needs to the instructor. What is my commitment level? – Consider how often you’d like to train and if you’re looking for long-term development or targeted improvement in a short timeframe. Knowing this will help both you and the coach set realistic expectations and a training schedule. How do I like to learn? – For young players, think about what type of instruction they respond to best—some learn well through video analysis, while others may prefer hands-on demonstration and drills. Letting the coach know this helps them tailor their approach. What motivates me as a player? – Is your child looking to improve their confidence, make a specific team, or master a skill they’re struggling with? Understanding what drives them can help the instructor create a plan that keeps them motivated and focused. How important is feedback and progress tracking? – Decide if you’d prefer regular updates on progress or a more relaxed approach. Knowing this upfront helps ensure you’re aligned with the coach’s style of communication and goal-setting.
