About
My name is Kathleen Alpurado. I'm 22 years old and have been playing guitar for about 8-9 years now. I primarily play fingerstyle guitar and have been teaching beginners on and off since 2015. Each lesson is different based on the learning style of each guitarist, but what I teach is all the same. Chords, scales, and songs. For more intermediate players, I teach how to read and write music as well as to compose music. I will also teach fingerstyle if student is interested. If interested, I am able to teach ukulele as well.
I enjoy watching people have fun and improve over time.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first lesson is typically gauging the experience of the player and what specifically they are wanting to learn. From there, I can develop more of a lesson plan based on their wants and needs.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I don’t have any formal education. Everything I know has been learned through teaching myself and gaining experience through music therapy volunteering(for 1 year) and worship leading at my church (going on 5+ years). I did take a beginner’s music theory in college but that’s about it.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
It’s always negotiable, but typically $20 for basic chord and strumming lessons and $30 for finger style guitar lessons.
How did you get started teaching?
People I knew kept asking me for lessons and I agreed to teach them for little to no pay. I really enjoy it so I try to do it as much as I can as a part time job.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with middle school aged kids to middle aged adults. Some with experience and some without. Some have been able to learn quickly, and some take a bit longer.
