Brandon’s Art Lessons
About
What I like most about teaching art is seeing people discover new things they may not have known before.
My teaching philosophy is to let every person be free as they draw or paint. I do not believe in telling any student, "You must do it this way." When instruction is taught in this manner, I feel it limits the student's creativity which I feel is the number one attribute I don't want to take away. I don't want the student to have my style but their own art style.
My goals are to discuss their work as it relates to the rules of art. Not my rules. I have studied these rules for a long time and know I can help people improve by talking about these rules when viewing their work. My critique philosophy is to use the rules of art to discuss their artwork. My philosophy is based on the rules of art mainly.
Teaching is so rewarding and teaching art is an amazing experience. I love helping people and I hope to help them improve and feel confident about their artwork.
I graduated from California State University, Fullerton and have a Bachelors of Arts degree in the field of design which incorporates having many art classes.
I love teaching figure drawing and figure painting and any other area as well.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My process is to let the student be free with their artwork. I do not like to constrict and criticize in a strict manner. I talk about the positives in their work and negative by using the rules of arts. I believe in not taking their own creative ability away, but to improve it with the rules of art.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Bachelos degree in design and current teaching at different public schools. I sub teach and have taught many art classes doing that job and freelancing as well.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My standard is $20 an hour, but first class is only $10 an hour. I make it that way in case the student is not happy.
How did you get started teaching?
By volunteering and by getting my sub credential. Also by word of mouth advertising.
What types of students have you worked with?
All different types. Painting students, drawing students and even teaching sculpture to students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Well one event was teaching sculpture and painting to some figure drawing students. Very enjoyable event.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would just tell them to feel comfortable with me. I do not believe in pressure teaching. Again I am not trying to make or mold the student into me but their own artist by using the rules of art.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I think they need to look at their own work, and tell the teacher what they don't like. Then the teacher can offer suggestions. Whatever the student may be struggling with and wants good feedback both positive and negative. The student needs to feel free first and then the questions will happen. A teacher must make the student feel free and loose before good teaching can transpire.
